The Hoopoe is typical of the steppes, forest-steppes, and clear forests in the south of Central Siberia. It occurs near Achinsk and Minusinsk and probably in the Us depression as well. It appears periodically in the vicinity of Krasnoyarsk and Kansk. The northern range limit in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is not clearly defined. Several vagrants have been recorded to the north along the banks of the Yenisey. In mid taiga, it was seen at the mouth of the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in 1977, near Komsa in 1985, and at Mirnoye in 1979, 1983, 1984, and 1986. In the unusually warm and early spring of 1982, a hunter shot a Hoopoe at Kangotovo, 63ё20' N in typical northern taiga. Of the seven mid and northern taiga records listed, five were made in spring between May 2 and June 5, and the other two on August 11 and 27. They were non-breeding birds which usually remained on the stony banks of the Yenisey for several days. The Hoopoe which appeared in Mimoye on May 2, 1984, remained in the area until its death on May 20.
